Step-by-Step Vidhi
1. Wear green clothes and apply mehendi (henna), symbolizing the arrival of the monsoon and greenery. 2. Set up Shiva-Parvati idols on a decorated chowki, remembering Parvati's penance to win Shiva as her husband. 3. Observe a nirjala (waterless) or phalahari (fruits-only) fast through the day. 4. Offer suhaag items, green flowers, durva grass and bel patra to the deities, along with sweets and ghewar as bhog. 5. Sing traditional Teej songs, swing on decorated jhulas with other women, and perform aarti in the evening before breaking the fast (married women) or continuing until the next day (per regional custom).
Auspicious Timing & Mantras
Performed on Shravan Shukla Tritiya. Chant "Om Namah Shivaya" and recite the Teej Vrat Katha. Observed by married women for marital happiness and by unmarried women for a good life partner.
