Step-by-Step Vidhi
1. Set up the Saraswati idol/picture on a chowki draped in yellow or white cloth, since yellow is considered her favorite color and symbolizes the arrival of spring. 2. Place books, notebooks, pens and any musical instruments near the idol so they receive her blessing. 3. Offer roli, akshat, yellow flowers and a garland to the goddess, chanting "Om Aim Saraswatyai Namah". 4. Perform aarti (Jai Saraswati Mata) and offer kheer or yellow-colored sweets as bhog. 5. Children traditionally write their first letters (Akshar Abhyasam / Vidyarambham) on this day, dipping a finger in honey or rice to write "Om" for the first time, invoking the goddess's blessing before beginning formal education.
